Head teacher's Introduction

Heather Lewis

It is a pleasure to present this website to you. Our website is constantly developing and evolving, therefore we encourage you to visit it regularly in order to gain an insight to school life. Ysgol Y Strade is a friendly, vibrant community.

Our school is unique in Llanelli. It is the only Welsh comprehensive school in the area and it is the only school to have a Sixth Form.

We take pride in our long history of academic and extra curricular successes and the personal support that every pupil enjoys. Our close partnership with the home is important to us to ensure the welfare and success of our pupils, hopefully this website will strengthen that vital partnership.

Please read on for more information and if you have any enquiries do not hesitate to contact me in school.

About Us

Ysgol Gyfun y Strade was established in 1977 as a mixed Bilingual Comprehensive School (Ages 11-18).

In September 2012 it will have approximately 1000 pupils with an established first year intake of about 200.

The school is committed to maintaining and raise the standards of pupils' work and behaviour and to promote Welsh medium education in a bilingual community. The annual school development plan and improvement targets directly relate to these aims. Staff and pupils at Strade work enthusiastically to uphold the school's logo, namely - “Nid da lle gellir gwell”.

Aims of Ysgol Y Strade

The school provides, within a safe and happy Welsh community, the widest possible range of educational opportunities, thus preparing our young people for their future. This allows each child to achieve his or her academic, practical and social potential in addition to showing respect and displaying courtesy to fellow pupils and adults. Y Strade is a Welsh school and pupils are expected to use the Welsh language on all possible occasions inside and outside the classroom.
